Praia do Santinho is a beach in north Florianopolis located about 40 kilometres from the centre of the city. Praia do Santinho was earlier known as Praia das Aranhas and is still called by that name by many local people and visitors. Only after 1970 people have started using the name Santinho and maps were updated with this name. Toponimo Aranhas and Advem das Ilhas that are to the south of Praia do Santinho and opposite to the tip of the land were used to be called as Ponta das Ilhas das Aranhas and now simplified to be known as Ponta das Aranhas. The meaning of Aranhas is spider and the reason why it was named after spider earlier was that the beach was full of spiders coming from Islands of Aranhas. The beach is approximately 2.2 kilometres long and varies from 10 to 120 metres in width. It is right next to Praia dos Ingles. View location on map
